Volunteers!
All
the staff at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway are volunteer members of
the Scottish Railway Preservation Society who give up valuable time to
help run the railway and operate one of scotlands great tourist
attractions. We simply couldn't continue without the hard work that goes in from our volunteers and we are always looking to recruit new volunteers.
Not
everyone can be a Guard. The Guard is very improtant and is in Charge
of the Train. He must ensure it is Safe and Fit to enter service, and
deal with any hick ups that may happen during the day. You need to be
medically fit, and be able to learn and pass the Railway Rules and
Guards Examinations for the line. You will learn the Railway inside out
and have lots of chances to "get your hands dirty". Station Masters are very important. They look after the day to day running of our stations at Bo'ness and Birkhill. They can often be found sweeping the platforms, polishing the brass, toping up the Fire Buckets and making sure the station toilets are clean and seeing in and out every train safely.
Booking
Clerks are the first people our visitors often see. They issue a wide
range of tickets to our visitors from a traditional booking office
setting, as well as providing information on the railway (Not
everything is traditional though - they even installed a Chip & Pin
device!)If you can help and can spare some time, no matter how much or how little, please get in touch!
